Most of us don’t think about what to do during or after intercourse, we do what we feel like doing and we don’t think twice about if it’s right or not. The most important thing is always to maintain proper hygiene in our private zone because it’s highly susceptible to bacterial infections. Most of the bacterial infections we face are a result of some unhealthy habits and some of them involve our behavior after sex. Here are the 8 most important things every woman should pay attention to after intercourse and if they do they can be sure that infections will stay at bay and optimal health will be achieved.
Going to the toilet right after sex
First you need to pee. During sex it’s easy for bacteria to enter inside your most intimate parts and since it’s a warm and moist environment they can easily start multiplying and cause an infection. If you want to prevent a UTI pee as soon as you finish your sexual intercourse, it will help flush out the bacteria out of your system and you can then return to whatever you like doing afterwards.
DRINK PLENTY OF WATER
Sex is a physical activity and just like after any other physical activity your body needs water to re-hydrate. If your mouth feels dry you need to drink plenty of water to prevent dehydration. Drink a glass or two of water right after sex and you’ll be good to go.
HOT BATHS ARE NOT RECOMMENDED
You can certainly shower after sex if that’s your thing but avoid hot baths. Your vagina responds to stimulation by opening up a bit more than usually and it takes a while until it returns back to normal. In such a situation a hot bath can create a perfect environment for an infection so it’s not advisable. But showering with lukewarm water is fine.
DON’T USE SOAPS
This is a general rule and should be applied at all times not just after sex, even though it’s when your intimate parts are more sensitive. Never wash your vagina with soap or anything else for that matter except water. Your vagina has a self-cleaning mechanism and can clean itself just fine without your help. Douches, intimate gels and soaps can interfere with its pH cause irritation and dryness. Many people say what you don’t put in your mouth you shouldn’t put near your private parts. The only thing you should be using to keep your vagina clean and fresh is clean, lukewarm water.
PROBIOTICS ARE THE BEST FOOD AFTER SEX
What you eat after sex is very important and even though you feel like you’ve deserved a piece of chocolate don’t cave in under the temptation and choose your snack wisely. Fermented food may not look so appealing but we guarantee they’re the best option for you after intercourse. Probiotics are rich in good bacteria and will replenish your body with these beneficial bacteria, preventing a yeast infection.
WET WIPES ARE NOT GOOD FOR YOU
If you’re not in the habit of showering right after intercourse you might feel like wiping yourself with wet wipes is the next best thing. However, all wet wipes are loaded with chemicals, fragrances and who know what else and can cause an irritation to your private parts. Once again, the only thing that you should use is plain, lukewarm water. If you insist, you can combine a bit of white vinegar with some warm water and rinse your vagina with the solution. Make sure to dry your private parts afterwards.
AIR DRY YOUR PRIVATE PARTS AND PREVENT A YEAST INFECTION
This may seem weird but many women have started blow drying their vaginas after intercourse. Experts recommend this especially if you’re prone to UTIs. Before you blow dry your vagina wash it with some lukewarm water. Set your blow dryer to cool air and just be careful not to overdo it and leave your inner parts moist. In the end use a cotton towel and you’re goo to go.
COTTON IS YOUR ONLY FRIEND WHEN IT COMES TO UNDERWEAR
And this means that you need to forget about wearing that sexy lingerie because we all know they’re made of synthetic, unbreathable materials like polyester and nylon. If you wear this type of underwear after sex you’re definitely in for an infection. Your vagina is a damp and warm environment, especially after sex, and if you put on lingerie you’ll be trapping the bacteria inside and creating the perfect breeding ground for them. Plus, your skin won’t be able to breathe and you’ll cause additional complications. Stick to 100% cotton panties or go naked, the choice is yours!
